Meet Our Essential Team

Alyssa Clifford

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I’ve been with BDC for 7yrs. I’m a Marketing Associate and I handle all of our graphic design and social media.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
The pandemic has refocused our attention to new messaging, different safety protocols, and many projects so that we can get the office open again in a safe manner. It’s definitely been a challenge to deal with all of this new information, but we’ve all been working as a team to get it done! Personally, it has helped me to cherish my relationships more and has allowed me to connect in new ways. I’m thankful for Zoom!

How has your family been doing?
I’m very grateful and blessed; my family has not been personally affected by the virus.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I’ve gotten a lot done around my house, that’s for sure! My garden is getting so much TLC this year! I’ve also been reading more and cleaning. My pups are happy because they’re getting to go on so many more walks!

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
I’ve been able to video chat with friends and family during this time. I’m finding that we’re actually connecting more than we would if were able to see each other in person!

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
I’ll be excited to plan a vacation and get away for a while. And of course, I can’t forget Home Goods – I miss shopping!

Michelle Ferraro

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I’ve been working with BDC for 20 years! I am the Front Desk team leader.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
It has definitely been difficult. I’ve been working more than ever, so it’s hard to be away from my family for so long. It was challenging having my son’s school shut down and trying to teach him myself. I really miss doing normal things like going out to dinner. Professionally, working with a skeleton crew has been rough, but we’ve been making it through. We really have great teamwork, and we could never have done it without that!

How has your family been doing?
My family has been good! Everyone is healthy. I have two kids, my son is 5 and my daughter is 2. My son may have failed out of pre-K thanks to my lackluster teaching skills, but hey, I did my best! He’s really looking forward to starting kindergarten.

How have you found working in this environment?

It’s definitely been stressful, but it’s been rewarding. The whole purpose of us working during this pandemic has been to keep people out of hospitals for symptoms that are really better treated by a dentist. It was great to truly help people in need.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
You know, I had a whole to do list, but I was working so much I didn’t get to it! Hopefully soon, when things start to go back to normal, I’ll have a chance.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
We’ve been doing a lot of face time calls and phone calls. And my friends had a weekly group video call, to catch up and see how everyone was doing.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
Go to a restaurant again! I really miss being able to do that. And I really want to see my friends and family, I miss socializing.

LaNae Milian

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I’ve been working with BDC for 15 years. I’m a Dental Assistant.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
Thankfully, not in a negative way. Our family is home together more, which is great. And we’ve been able to get a lot done at home that we’ve had on the back burner.

How has your family been doing?
We are all healthy and praying that doesn’t change. We did have to put our first “baby,” Bauer Dog, to sleep, so that has been the hardest thing so far. He was having neurological issues and would have been 12 years old July. He was a big part of our family, so that was rough.

How have you found working in this environment?
It’s not a huge change, honestly! Of course, there have been additions to our routine like taking temperatures, some additional PPE, and new sterilizing techniques, but we’ve been rolling with the punches. I’ve just been staying flexible and adapting to whatever comes our way.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
Unfortunately not. Thankfully, I have been able to spend more time with my husband and girls, and I’m very grateful for that.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
Absolutely, it has definitely been a priority for me. We stay in touch over Facebook, with Face Time calls, and I was even able to visit some family in upstate NY before everything shut down.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
So many things…but mostly I’ll be excited not to wear a mask in public anymore!

Katie Foster

How long have you been with BDC, and what’s your role?
I’ve been working with Babylon Dental Care for 11 years as the Clinical Director. As the head of the clinical department, I work with the doctors and keep the department running smoothly.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
It has been a lot to process! Professionally it was hard. Working from home was a new experience for me, and with the schools shut down, that made the situation difficult. Balancing my work and taking care of my kids at the same time wasn’t easy.
Personally, it’s been difficult for my children. I have two girls, they’re 6 and 4. It was hard for them to not see their friends, and to explain why they couldn’t. And my oldest missed her teachers as well.

How has your family been doing?
My family has been good, fortunately! I’m very grateful that no one has gotten sick. I got to spend so much time with my girls, which was amazing, and I helped teach kindergarten to my oldest.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I actually learned how to skateboard! That was scary, but fun. I also spent some time learning how to do some repairs around the house.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
We stayed in touch over video calls! Every Saturday night we would have a game night over a video call with my siblings and my parents. It was great to stay in touch with them.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
I’m so excited to finally get a haircut! It’s funny how you miss the little things like that. And I really miss going to concerts. I’m also looking forward to my sister’s wedding. Of course, it won’t be what she originally planned, and she’s actually moved the ceremony to my backyard. But I’m really excited about it! It will be a lot of fun.

Sarah Muller

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I actually started with BDC just as the pandemic started, so I’ve only been here for a little over 3 months! I am a Marketing Associate, and I do all of the writing that BDC puts out.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
It was definitely a rough ride at first, but it gets better every day! Professionally, starting a new job in the middle of a global pandemic was definitely and odd way to join a company, but it came at a time when my help was really needed. It was rewarding to be able to jump in and really make a difference in the team.
Personally, it’s been strange, but not too bad. It’s definitely hard not seeing my friends, but I’m fortunate to have my family in the area to keep me from going too crazy.

How has your family been doing?
Happy to say that everyone has been healthy! We’ve had a few job losses and furloughs, but overall I’m just relieved that everyone is safe.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I’ve renewed my interest in gardening! I’ve always had a garden every summer, but since I’m home I’ve had a lot more time to devote to it. My garden is exploding with flowers! I always joke that I’m never home, so it’s been really nice to actually be home and enjoy my apartment. Because I am working from home so much of the week, I set up a seating area in my garden so I can work outside, and I absolutely love it.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
The only people I saw throughout quarantine was my immediate family, and I ended up sleeping over at my mom’s house over the weekends so I could get some social time in! Other than that, I actually have a lot of friends who live out of state, so nothing much changed with them because I have standing video call dates with them monthly.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
I really want to see my friends! I can’t wait to see them again. I just want to go out to dinner with my friends and not have to worry about masks or outdoor seating. That sounds like a dream.

Sally Pokorney

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I’ve been with BDC for 35 years! I am the Call Center Team Lead.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
Professionally, management was so supportive of us, and that felt really good. They really listened to what we needed and were very open to feedback. Not that any of us ever wanted to go through something like this, but this kind of situation is “make or break” and I was truly impressed with how BDC handled it. It’s something that really makes you feel like you’re working for the right company.
Personally, even though I was still working full time, I couldn’t do my normal activities, so I had more free time than I normally do. I took the time to do some reflection, and it really helped me to find new insight in what’s really important to me.

How has your family been doing?
Everyone has been good, thankfully! My grandchildren adjusted to home schooling, and everyone was able to work from home. Aside from missing each other, it’s been fine.

How have you found working in this environment?
It was a very gratifying experience. We met so many members of the community that we wouldn’t have normally seen, because their normal dentist was closed and they needed emergency care. They were so grateful for our help and that we were still open for emergencies. It was great to be able to help people in need.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I actually watched a ton of TV, which is something I never normally do! I watched The Sopranos from start to finish, among other things! You’d be shocked at how many books I read; the list just keeps going. And I also picked up crocheting again, which I haven’t done in a long time.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
We’ve been texting, having phone calls, getting together over video calls. I also am a spiritual director and normally I would be in a monthly class with other spiritual directors, so to keep in touch we had a monthly video chat.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
A pedicure, definitely! And of course, I really miss my grandchildren and my family.

Gabby Sanchez

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I started working for BDC on March 1, 2020 but it feels like I have been here longer! I am a Patient Coordinator and I work in the Insurance Department.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
Professionally, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was very lucky to still be able to work at BDC. Personally was where it affected me the most, because I wasn’t able to see my family. Also, my fiancé’s hours doubled, so I was alone a lot of the time

How has your family been doing?
Everyone is okay, we are healthy and just happy we can finally see each other.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I was definitely outside more, and I started rollerblading again after 10+ years! Also, taking long morning walks with my dog is definitely a highlight of my day.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
Phone calls and Facetime! My mom will stop by my house once and while and drop off food for us and wave hello from her car. It’s sad, but it’s important to stay safe!

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
I’m looking forward to hanging out with family and friends, maybe have a great big dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. And of course, it will be great to go outside without a face mask!

Dr. Peck

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role/job title?
I have been a Dentist at Babylon Dental Care for 30 years.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
Professionally, it’s been mentally stressful dealing with people in pain. On a regular schedule we probably are busier and work harder, but psychologically this time has been very draining.

Personally, I never get to see my wife anymore! It’s definitely been stressful to deal with.

How has your family been doing?
My wife has lung issues and has been sheltering in place. It’s like Groundhog Day – every day seems exactly the same!

How have you found working in this environment?
The camaraderie has been amazing! Everyone has been so supportive and really stepped up.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
Crossword puzzles! Finally had time for more of them. No sports, so I had to fill my free time with something!

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
We’ve been playing jackbox games over Zoom meetings or Google hangouts. Our nieces and nephews will get together over Zoom on Friday nights.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
Travel! I’d love to go on vacation again. We’ll see when that happens…

Dr. Harold Gaynes

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role/job title?
I have been a dentist at Babylon Dental Care since 2001, so almost 20 years!

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
Professionally, I felt more of a responsibility due to the lack of dental care that was available out there. As a dentist and a professional at BDC, patients had nowhere else to go. We really felt responsible to provide people with care. By keeping BDC open, we were keeping people out of the ER and hospital. We were essential because of our services, and also kept the ER beds clear for more dire needs.

Personally, I was very anxious and scared. I kept asking myself, will it affect me or my family? My son is in China teaching so I really felt it even before it hit here. Did I believe it would come here? I knew it would. But of course, it was still a shock. Once it came here, it was really scary. I still can’t see my daughter who is in Maryland. My wife is high risk and I was very worried about her getting it. I had to focus on protecting myself so I could protect my wife. Of course, there’s a change in your normal activities. I don’t get to see my usual shows, concerts, but that’s nothing compared to protecting ourselves.

How has your family been doing?

Everybody has been good. My children are both safe, as is my wife. I still give my daughter some guidance over the phone about health. When it comes to health, I’m the expert for my family!

How have you found working in this environment?
I did a lot of triage work. By the end, I was here every single day. It was really important to me to help care for our patients in need.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I’ve definitely spent a lot more time in my garden. This year it’s totally weed free, which it never is! My wife, because she can’t go out, has been gardening with me. We usually love road trips, which we can’t do right now, but instead we have been going out east to farm stands. I’ve also been catching up on movies I never got to watch. We also took online an cheese tasting courses and an online painting course, which were both a lot of fun!

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
Once a week we do a family game night! Usually we play online Boggle and Scategories for a couple of hours, and it’s a lot of fun. For Father’s Day and Mother’s Day we stopped by my parents’ house. We brought bagels, sat outside and distanced, but we could see them which was the most important thing. We did a couple of bigger family Zoom sessions for extended family members as well. I’ve also been keeping in touch with fellow dentist friends to see how they’ve been doing with patients, and it’s always good to talk to colleagues.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?

Concerts! I really miss live music. A Broadway show would also be great. Just visiting a city again would be great. Even just a long road trip. And I’m really looking forward to visiting my daughter, I haven’t seen her since February.

Dr. Brown

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I have been a Dentist at Babylon Dental Care since the beginning!

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
I’ve been doing dental work for a very long time. I went through the AIDS crisis, and Hep-C. So for me, this isn’t new – I’ve done this before. Because of that, it didn’t cause as much anxiety. I did what I had to do. I was here to see our patients who had emergencies, and I worked more than I’ve worked in years. Long days, but I enjoy what I do no matter the situation.

How has your family been doing?
Wonderful. My family is definitely getting a little stir-crazy, but we’re all getting through it.

How have you found working in this environment?
I’m feeling more laser-focused on how I can help the patient in front of me, because of the situation.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
No, if I’m not treating the patients, I have overhead administration stuff to do. The day never really ends. I always have to think about how to be a good steward of BDC. But I’ve started reading fiction, I haven’t done that in 30 years. I always read things related to office or management, but now I’m reading some more fun titles.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
Phone calls mostly, and occasionally my son will come over and stay. Sometimes my daughter will come by with her baby. I call my mother and keep in touch. My friends and I touch base on the phone every few weeks. We used to have a card game every Tuesday night since 1980, these are friends from college and others I went to kindergarten with. The last game was in February. But we can’t wait to see each other again.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
The only thing I’m missing is a day off! Instead of setting an alarm clock, I would love to just wake up naturally. I would also like to go back to the movies and see a baseball game again.

Mary Robilotta

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I have been an office manager at Babylon Dental Care for 10 years.

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
It has definitely been a learning and growing experience. It caused me to reevaluate the things that I want and need, both professionally and personally. I have gained a greater appreciation for the things we had before the pandemic. It has reignited a new fire in me while facing the challenges of getting the offices back up and running.

How has your family been doing?
My family has been healthy and following the rules. The kids have been sad and disappointed with the loss of their activities, but they’re all adapting very well. Everyone has been healthy.

How have you found working in this environment?
It’s been rewarding, and at times it has been trying. I had to become more patient and understanding, in a variety of different ways. Since the team has been working in and out of the office, this experience has really strengthened our bonds.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
I have been getting up at 4:30 am doing home workouts and running. Without the gym, I look forward to that time to destress and center myself. Even if the gym reopens, I enjoy it so much I think I’ll continue it! I have also been watching Criminal Minds and I’ve been home for dinner every night. The quality of time with my kids has been even better, we appreciate it more, and we have game nights and fires.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
I have a Zoom game night every Sunday with my five siblings & my parents. We also had a backyard social distancing party. I haven’t been able to hug or kiss my parents in four months, but at least I can see them now – from a distance.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
Be around people again! I can’t wait to go to a bar, listen to music, or even go to a concert.

Maria Ferraro

How long have you been with BDC? What’s your role?
I have been a practice liaison for Babylon Dental Care for 9 years. I make sure both offices work in sync!

How has this pandemic affected you, professionally and personally?
Professionally, it was stressful and definitely challenging at first, but we worked together and really helped a lot of people. I am proud of that. Personally, I’ve been very anxious, but I was able to support my team members who were also anxious.

How has your family been doing?
They’ve been good, healthy, and everyone has been working throughout the pandemic.

How have you found working in this environment?
In the beginning it was stressful, but now we’re taking it day by day. I have been keeping in touch with members of our team who aren’t here.

Have you found any new hobbies during quarantine, or have you found time to pick up an old hobby?
Adult coloring books are really fun, and they definitely help me destress. I have also been catching up on my shows, like Grey’s Anatomy & The Challenge.

How have you been staying in touch with your friends and family?
My friends and I are doing a weekly Zoom call, texting and calling each other. My brother lives in Jersey, so we keep in touch with group chats.

Once quarantine is fully over and it’s safe to do our normal activities, what are you most excited to do first?
Finally go out to dinner and get to socialize with my friends!
