Michelle Sands
Sleep Director

Michelle began her journey with BDC in 2011. She has taken on many roles over the years, such as: chairside dental hygienist, hygiene team lead, hygiene team trainer, and clinical director; Michelle now takes the position of Sleep Apnea Director. Growing up Michelle didn’t have the luxury of going to the dentist. At 17, with no knowledge of dentistry, she responded to an ad in the newspaper to work at a dental office, from there she gained a strong interest in the field and later joined the BDC family. Here she found a team that is not only supportive professionally but personally as well. Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. With a completely booked hygiene schedule and being newly diagnosed, her entire hygiene team did what she thought was the impossible – they all pulled together taking extra shifts, rotating through the West Babylon and Patchogue practices for six months straight, to have Michelle’s back, exemplifying the true meaning of teamwork. Since going through breast cancer, Michelle feels that it has redefined her world, giving her the motivation and inspiration she needs every day. She has become aware of all the beautiful little things in life and feels so lucky, so blessed, and finds appreciation in every small moment. After treatment, Michelle came back to her BDC family and transitioned to her new role as Sleep Apnea Director. In her new position, Michelle found even more joy in treating her patients than she could have ever imagined. When sleep apnea patients come in, they are miserable, exhausted, with little hope for a solution. When Michelle begins their treatment, and the patient begins to realize that there IS help, she can see the huge transformation in them. Michelle’s patients go from a life-threatening situation, making themselves and their family miserable, to a complete change to their health, wellness, and life as a whole. Being able to do this for her patients is a joy and true honor for Michelle.  Michelle wants her patients to know that, here at BDC, we are here to help and listen – not to sell a product, because that is not what we’re about. Michelle understands that everyone has a story and she’s here to listen with kindness, compassion, and empathy. In her free time, Michelle loves spending time with her husband and her boys. She also enjoys traveling and has found that Hawaii is her favorite place to be, her “spirit place.”
