7 Unconventional Tips to Whiten Your Teeth and Keep Them Healthy!

Book your next appointment

square-smile-2 When it comes to whitening your teeth, you certainly won’t find a shortage of options. Whether it’s a special kind of toothpaste, pen, professional treatment at a dentist, or something else, there are seemingly teeth whitening options around every corner.

What you may not know is there are many teeth whitening options that are a little different (off the beaten path you might say).

In this article, we’re going to cover 7 unique ways to whiten your teeth that you’ve probably never tried. So if your current teeth whitening regimen is getting a little boring (or isn’t working at all), mix it up with some of these tips.

1: Brush your tongue every day.

Obviously, brushing your tongue helps to prevent bad breath, but did you know that it can also keep your teeth whiter and healthier?

If you don’t brush your tongue consistently, trapped bacteria can make its way onto the teeth, which can darken the enamel. If you want to keep your teeth white and your breath fresh, brush your tongue religiously.

2: Eat crunchy fruits, nuts, and vegetables.

Eating crunchy, healthy foods such as raw carrots, nuts, or apples can help reduce the amount of stains that buildup on your teeth.

The crunchiness of these items act as a natural “tooth buffer,” and when combined with consistent brushing, helps to remove excess particles that can damage and stain your pearly whites.

3: Ditch the whitening strips and use trays instead.

Whitening strips have been made popular in recent years by large oral product manufacturers. They sound good in theory, but the problem is that whitening strips don’t whiten your teeth evenly.

What’s worse than yellow teeth? Teeth that are white in some spots but really yellow around the gums. That’s not the look anyone is going for.

4: Stay away from baking soda.

How many times have you heard that you need to brush your teeth with baking soda? While using it once or twice is harmless enough, consistent use can begin to wear away at enamel, endangering the integrity and structure of the teeth.

5: Let apple cider vinegar be your friend.

If you are looking for a natural, organic alternative to mainstream mouthwash, apple cider vinegar is for you. While it may not be quite as effective as products, such as Scope®, Crest® mouthwash, Listerine®, et cetera, it can still provide your mouth with a very clean feeling.

For best results it is recommended that you mix the solution so that it is approximately 2/3 water and 1/3 apple cider vinegar. Water dilutes it to the point where it isn’t too abrasive and harmful on your enamel.

6: Get a new toothbrush frequently.

smiling-woman-squareMost toothbrushes wear down after about the 3-month mark, at which time they are no longer effective at fighting cavities or keeping stains from penetrating your enamel.

An easy way to know when it’s time to change your toothbrush is to simply use a new one each “quarter.” At the beginning of the year, buy 4 new toothbrushes and label them 1, 2, 3, and 4.

At the end of March switch from 1 to 2, and so on. It’s a simple system that you can put in place to make sure you’re always brushing your teeth with a fresh toothbrush.

7: Oranges, lemons, and limes oh my!

We love citrus fruits as much as anyone, but the acid can really wear away at your enamel. An easy rule to follow is this: After you eat an orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, or other citrus fruit, rinse your mouth out thoroughly with water.

This simple tip will help keep acid from eroding the enamel. It’s fast, easy, and it works.

So what now?

While these are some unique options to add a little spice to your teeth whitening regimen, nothing can replace the results that are achieved by undergoing a professional teeth whitening treatment from Babylon Dental Care.

At our office, we utilize a variety of whitening procedures to help produce the whiter smile you are looking for—a smile you can proudly show off to your friends and family.

One of the unique benefits of being a Babylon Dental Care patient is that you have the ability to enroll in our Whitening for Life program.

How it works:

You pay a one-time fee to enroll in the program, at which time you’ll be custom-fitted with a set of upper and lower teeth whitening trays and gel.

After your initial enrollment, you will be eligible to receive a complimentary touch-up kit of whitening gel each time you visit our office for a preventative appointment. Keeping your teeth white and healthy has never been easier!

You can also get instant results with Zoom!® Whitening or EZ White® Pro.

In addition to our Whitening for Life program, we also offer two in-office solutions designed to make your teeth 8 shades whiter in as little as 30 minutes to 1 hour of treatment.

Both Zoom! Whitening and EZ White Pro combine the use of bleach with a light-activated technology to remove deep stains. If your teeth are yellow from years of smoking or drinking dark beverages, then one of these professional teeth whitening options may be right for you.

I am not a fan of going to the dentist at all but when my sister recommended to try them, my thoughts about the dentist completely changed. This dentist office is very professional and do really care about the patient. I was amazed at the follow up phone call, email, and text! “I always LOVE my experience at Babylon Dental! Everybody is so kind, from the receptionist at the front to the billing staff on the way out. The dentists are thorough, friendly, and very attentive. Erin M. from West Babylon

“This is the kindest, most compassionate office I have ever been to. Every person on staff is polite and courteous; not something you see too often these days. I ‘hated’ going to the dentist so much that I would only go when I had a problem. Since I started using Babylon Dental about 8 years ago, I go 2 to 3 times a year for a cleaning and just to make sure everything’s ok. I recommend this practice to everyone I know!”

Nancie P. from West Babylon

“Everything went very well. The procedure was almost painless, and since it was my first cavity filling, I was surprised at how easy it was. Everyone was very nice and willing to answer any questions I had.”

The office from the waiting room to the exam room were immaculate. Everything that was done during my visit was explained to me in detail which helps for someone with a fear of the dentist. The best experience I’ve ever had at a dental office.””

“First the reception area was beautifully decorated. Your office runs very smoothly and efficiently, plus the staff are professional, friendly and great at what they do. Best run office I’ve ever seen.”

Michael C. from North Babylon

“Amazing. I am deathly afraid, and have been hurt by many dentists. But Melody, who did my x-rays and cleaning, was great. I was amazed how much they actually CARED about how I felt and was doing. Dr. Brown who read my x-rays sat and just talked To me not at me for a good 15/20 minutes. Didn't suggest root canals, posts n crowns, yell at me about my missing back teeth. He just talked to me about what is currently going on and his best suggestions to care for it, which didn't include root canals, extraction etc. Therefore I would highly recommend them. And thank you for a really positive experience”

Pat M from Patchogue

“The staff is so wonderful! Best experience I’ve ever had a dentist office by far. They offer the cutest “comfort bar” with tons of options to make you feel right at home.
